Born in Belgium.Zara Rutherford.19.is a Belgian-British pilot. She has become the youngest woman pilot to fly alone around the world in 2022.
She began studying to become a pilot at the age of 14. And she received her pilot's license in2020. At St. Swithun's School, she achieved her A levels in mathematics and physics.
Rutherford set out from Belgium on August 18,2021 on a 32,000-mile journey west. She has been to about 50 nations, including the United States.Greenland,Columbia,and South Korea. The most difficult part of the journey was flying over northern Russia. If something went wrong,help would be hours away.
She arrived at Kortrijk, Belgium, on January 20, 2022. Four planes from the Belgian Red Devils flight show team joined her on her landing and she was met by her family. journalists,and well-wishers when she returned to Belgium. She broke the record of American pilot Shaesta Waiz who set it in 2017 at the age of 30.
“It's just really crazy,"she said after landing.“It has been such a long difficult five months. I am so relieved(放心的)to be home.”Rutherford added that flying across the world was always a goal of hers though she first felt it would be too risky.
With the final touchdown,the teenager wants to encourage young women and girls worldwide to follow their dreams with the spirit of air travel. They can also have enthusiasm（熱情)for studies in the exact sciences, mathematics,engineering and technology.
